Understanding Mining Tenements
Before you prospect in Western Australia, you need to understand mining tenements, the legal claims that determine where you can and can't go.
Prospecting Licence
Grants the right to prospect for minerals on an area up to 200 hectares. Valid for 4 years.
Exploration Licence
Allows larger-scale exploration activities. Can cover up to 200 square kilometres (70 blocks).
Mining Lease
The highest level. Authorises actual mining operations. Valid for 21 years and renewable.
